Sask Wheat Research

Sask Wheat has invested $67.3 million towards 305 research projects since 2014.

In the 2022-2023 crop year, Sask Wheat committed over $10.8 million to 55 projects.

Research is the central program of Sask Wheat. Improving the relative net profitability of producing wheat for Saskatchewan farmers is a key priority of the organization.

Sask Wheat funds many projects through the University of Saskatchewan and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), which are developing varieties that have better resistance to Fusarium and tolerance to pests and environmental stressors. In addition, Sask Wheat collaborates with the Alberta Wheat Commission and the Manitoba Crop Alliance through the Canadian Wheat Research Coalition (CWRC), funding research through core wheat breeding agreements with the Prairie universities and AAFC, as well as funding and administering the Canadian National Wheat Cluster.
