Second Winter Consultation on Seed Regulatory Modernization Released by CFIA

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is seeking comments from businesses and other organizations in the farming, seed and grain industries, as well as farmers, producers, seed growers, seed analysts, seed developers, seed conditioners, the general public and others who have an interest in the following aspects of the seed regulatory lifecycle:

  • Variety registration
  • Sampling, testing and grading of seed
  • Sale, import and export of seed

Many of the questions focus on aspects of the Seeds Regulations that impact Seeds Canada members and clients’ operations. With that in mind, Seeds Canada will offer a number of opportunities for engagement, including:

  • a webinar to walk members through the survey and collect initial feedback
  • a draft set of recommended responses for member feedback
  • a webinar to walk members through the draft responses and collect feedback
  • a final set of recommended responses

Seeds Canada encourages ALL members to complete the survey by May 1, 2024, but advises participating in Seeds Canada engagement opportunities prior to response.

This consultation is open until May 1, 2024.
