Networking Today, Sessions Tomorrow

While you are busy networking and catching up with your colleagues at the Exhibition Hall, Trade Tables and Networking Lounge, you should be thinking about what’s to come tomorrow!

On 12 October, start the day off with the Cereals and Pulses panel, focussing on intellectual property rights. The session will specifically address the delicate balance between the investment of industry in technologies and products, and looking at the fast and broad market introduction of respective products. Looking at the value of plant breeders’ rights, European Seed Editorial Director Marcel Bruins will moderate a panel looking at a new study by the EU Intellectual Property Observatory which seeks to assess the economical impact of plant variety protection.

During the Oil and Fibre Crops Session, the session will explore new technologies and innovative products that may help speed up the introduction of traits that support different sustainability criteria. Euroseeds will be presenting the latest survey results on their survey about opportunities and restrictions of use of the latest breeding methods.

The Forages and Grasses session will highlight the Green Deal, and how the Commission emphasizes the need to develop a more sustainable food production system and has defined the increase of organic production to 25% of the EU’s total acreage by 2030 as a pillar of its implementing strategy.

The final session of the day is about Maize and Sorghum. The implementations and main objectives of the EU will be presented (e.g. reducing pesticide and fertilizer use by 50% and 30% respectively), as well as a lively discussion about the EU research project INVITE on the modernisation of DUS and VCU testing: some explanation on data supply and protection.
