Hemp Breeding and Seed Production: A New Course By the UC Davis Seed Biotechnology Center

There’s a new course out there for anyone interested in hemp breeding and seed production. The University of California, Davis, Seed Biotechnology Center is happy to offer Hemp Breeding and Seed Production as their newest class.

Hemp Breeding and Seed Production is a two-day course designed to enhance the knowledge of professionals working on hemp improvement and propagation. The first course will be offered October 29-30, and registration is now open. Tuition before July 21 is $950, while tuition after July 22 is $1,050.

The course covers hemp seed production topics such as flowering, pollination, seed development, harvesting and certification. Course participants will also learn about hemp genomics, genetics, sex expression, types of cultivars with corresponding breeding schemes and intellectual property protection options. Instructors include experts from the public and private sectors and will be delivered in an interactive format with lectures and discussions.

  • Genetics and genomics
  • Genetic diversity
  • Chemotypes
  • Types of cultivars
  • Breeding schemes
  • Biology and physiology of seed development
  • Seed production flowering, pollination, seed development, harvesting
