We’ve seen it plenty over the last year: margins are tight not only for businesses, but for growers as well. And, as the UN just named Nov. 15 the Day of 8 Billion, or the day the globe hit a total of 8 billion people in terms of population, there’s always the question: how can our industry as a whole continue to meet the demand for food, feed and fiber? Consumers and farmers alike need innovations in the food and agriculture industry more today than ever before.
Now, customers are looking for innovations that not only add yield and increase ROI but provide environmental benefits as well. This year, Seed World looked at the past year of innovations to determine which earned a spot in Seed World’s 5 Most Innovative Products of 2022.
When it came down to it, our team received a fantastic slew of products to pick from. Choosing which products could move the needle was difficult, but with input from the Seed World editorial board and research our internal team, winners were named based on a combination of the following:
- It must be related to seed.
- Products must have been launched between Nov. 1, 2021 and Nov. 1, 2022.
- The product must be unique and move the needle.
- What’s the product’s market potential?
- What’s the impact to grower/ROI?
- Is there a societal impact?
- How scalable is the product?
This led us to five products from three categories: traits, treatments and technology. We’ve listed our innovations in alphabetical order by category.
