Ellen Sparry named board president as Eric McLean assumes the role of vice-president.
Four seed organizations — the Canadian Plant Technology Agency (CPTA); the Commercial Seed Analysts Association of Canada (CSAAC); the Canadian Seed Institute (CSI); and the Canadian Seed Trade Association (CSTA) have amalgamated to become one new, national seed association called Seeds Canada.
“Uniting under the Seeds Canada banner will result in a stronger lobbying voice for the seed sector and enhanced services for members and clients,” the new Seeds Canada website states.
Forming the 2021 executive committee are President Ellen Sparry of C&M Seeds and Vice-President Eric McLean of JS Henry & Son.
Making up the rest of the executive committee are:
- Annie Bergeron, Les Grains Semtech
- Holly Gelech, SGS Canada
- Quentin Martin, Cribit Seeds
Serving as interim executive director is Tyler McCann, who formerly served as interim executive director for the CSTA. A number of other familiar seed industry names will fill other major roles within Seeds Canada, including:
- Dianne Blais, Operations Coordinator
- Krista Erickson, Manager, Professional Development and Seed & Quality Program Coordinator
- Claudio Feulner, Manager, Regulatory Affairs and Trade
- Lorne Hadley, Director, Intellectual Property Protection
- Jennifer Scott, Manager, Programs
- Roy van Wyk, Director, Operations
- Liz Lumsden, Manager, Communications
The new Seeds Canada branding has also been unveiled. The logo highlights the four legacy organizations that make up the new Seeds Canada.
Seeds Canada has also launched its social media channels, including its Twitter account @Seeds_Canada.
