Europe’s seed sector welcomes the agreement reached by EU Member States on the Regulation on New Genomic Techniques (NGTs), a decisive step toward a more innovative, competitive, and resilient European agriculture.
Following the trilogue agreement, Member States have endorsed the compromise text, sending a strong political signal to the other co-legislator in support of advancing innovation in plant breeding.
“This agreement is a very welcome and encouraging development. It shows that Europe is determined to advance in support of innovation, sustainability and competitiveness,” Garlich von Essen, Secretary General and CEO of Euroseeds, said.
“For plant breeders and farmers alike, this alignment provides much -needed clarity and momentum.”
As the legislative process advances, Euroseeds remains committed to contributing constructively — supporting the European Parliament and Council as they move toward adoption of the file and assisting the Commission and national authorities with implementation of the Regulation. Euroseeds will also continue to provide technical expertise, advice, and recommendations whenever needed, according to a press release.
“We look forward to continuing our close cooperation with policymakers and regulators during the next phases,” von Essen added.“ Our shared objective is to ensure that the final implementation contributes to Europe’s competitiveness and allows the agri-food sector, across the entire value chain, to maintain and strengthen its global leadership.”
