Geir Pollestad, a Member of Norwegian Parliament and former Minister of Agriculture and Food, has nominated the Svalbard Global Seed Vault for the Nobel Peace Prize, alongside NordGen, FAO, Crop Trust, and CGIAR.
In his statement to the Nobel Committee, Pollestad stated that food security is a basic condition for peace, especially at a time shaped by climate change, natural disasters, and conflict. Nordgen posted the news on their LinkedIn page.
โFood and preparedness are such important parts of peacebuilding,โ Pollestad told Svalbardsposten.
NordGen is the Nordic countriesโ joint gene bank and knowledge center for genetic resources in plants, farm animals, and forests. It works to preserve genetic diversity and promote its sustainable use for food, agriculture, and climate resilience.
