Argentina’s Ministry of Economy has approved the commercialization of genetically modified soybean DBN8205, determining it to be as safe as conventional soybean varieties.

Developed by DBN Biotech Argentina, DBN8205 combines resistance to lepidopteran insects with tolerance to glufosinate ammonium herbicide. The approval permits nationwide planting and marketing of this stacked trait soybean, following submission of an insect resistance management plan and its registration in the National Registry of Cultivars, according to a press release.

The decision is expected to enhance Argentina’s competitiveness in the global soybean market, particularly against major producers such as Brazil and the USA. Soybean remains Argentina’s top export commodity, accounting for more than 25% of the country’s total exports.
