Expanded Label Provides Broader Protection for Cereal and Pulse Farmers

By: David Borgmeier, Seed Applied Technologies Lead, Corteva Agriscience

Corteva Agriscience is excited to announce that farmers now have greater access to Lumivia CPL insecticide seed treatment, which provides broad protection against early season yield-robbing pests in cereals and pulse crops.

A fast-acting, broad-spectrum insecticide, Lumivia CPL has been approved for use in wheat for the past two years. In November, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) granted a label expansion to extend Lumivia CPL’s use to lentil, pulse, barley, dry shelled pea and bean, and other crops.

The label expansion is an important win for farmers. Now, producers may treat their seed on-farm or purchase seed treated with Lumivia CPL. This will help farmers achieve uniform and healthy plant stand establishment, reduce spray applications, and maximize their crops’ yield potential.

Provides up to 40 days of seedling protection

Lumivia CPL contains a Group 28 anthranilic diamide insecticide that remains concentrated in key areas of the plant after planting, protecting through germination and after emergence. The product’s highly systemic movement above and below ground provides seedling protection up to 40 days after seeding.

The only pulse and cereal seed treatment that controls cutworm

Lumivia CPL provides outstanding early season insect protection for cereals, peas and lentils to help maximize stand count and yield potential and manage pest populations. The seed treatment also demonstrates proven activity against other key early-season insect pests including pea leaf weevil, armyworm, wireworm, grasshopper and seedcorn maggot.

Key pest management tool

Lumivia CPL features a unique mode of action and a strong active ingredient that benefits any resistance management plan. The insecticidal seed treatment is efficacious at low-use rates and compatible with other commercial seed treatment technologies. As someone who has spent my entire career in the seed industry, I’m always pleased to see an effective chemistry improve farmer outcomes. Though Corteva is relatively new in the seed treatment industry, we are rapidly screening and developing new solutions for farmers. It’s exciting to be a part of this expansion of product offerings.

Farmers can purchase Lumivia CPL insecticide seed treatment from their local ag retailer. To learn more about Lumivia CPL, visit Corteva.com or contact your local Corteva representative.

Contact your state pesticide regulatory agency to determine if Lumivia CPL is registered for sale or use in your state. Please reference Lumivia CPL’s supplemental product label for approved crops. Always read and follow label directions.
