At the 10th Congress of the Seed Association of the Americas in Brazil, Lorena Basso, president of Semillas Basso and current vice president and incoming leader of the International Seed Federation (ISF), stressed the urgency of innovation as the world heads toward 9.5 billion people by 2050. With limited land and rising climate pressures, the seed industry must boost efficiency and develop more resilient crops. Basso noted that progress will rely on continuous incremental improvements supported by advanced breeding tools and artificial intelligence. She also highlighted growing regulatory complexity in global seed movement. As the first woman to lead ISF, she hopes to inspire greater inclusion across the sector.
