To close out its annual conference in Quebec City today, Seeds Canada has released its Year in Review report, and it offers more than a recap — it’s a reminder of the momentum building in Canada’s seed sector. From regulatory breakthroughs to member-driven innovation, the report highlights how Seeds Canada is laying the groundwork for a more resilient, unified, and forward-looking industry.
According to the report, throughout the past year, Seeds Canada played a pivotal role in key national discussions, including Seed Regulatory Modernization. A landmark collaboration with the Canadian Seed Growers’ Association led to the formation of a joint advisory committee — a major step toward modernizing how seed is regulated in Canada. The organization also advocated for stronger protections under the Plant Breeders’ Rights Regulations and launched the Seed Tip Line to support enforcement efforts.
The report underscores Seeds Canada’s responsiveness to evolving member needs. Internally, the organization overhauled its committee structure to foster better engagement and clarity, while externally it expanded client services and began exploring AI-powered tools for intellectual property monitoring. A highlight of the year was the development of the Guide to Sustainable Seed, a collaborative effort that showcases the industry’s commitment to climate goals and environmental stewardship.
The review also details Seeds Canada’s role in keeping members informed amid shifting global trade dynamics and its growing influence through its new membership in the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance.
