Euroseeds has joined a coalition of more than 20 stakeholders in welcoming MEP Christian Ehler’s draft ITRE report on the future of Horizon Europe for 2028–2034 as a constructive starting point for further discussions on Europe’s research and innovation framework.
At the same time, the coalition calls on policy-makers to ensure that agriculture and the bioeconomy remain clearly and explicitly visible within the programme, according to a Euroseeds press release.
The coalition raises concerns over proposed Amendments 48 and 51, which would replace direct references to agriculture and the bioeconomy in the relevant policy window with the broader term “sustainable prosperity.” The signatories stress that this is not a merely technical or editorial change. Explicitly naming agriculture and the bioeconomy is essential to reflect Europe’s strategic priorities, provide political recognition, encourage innovation, and safeguard continued investment in food security, sustainability, rural development, and the green transition.
The signatories therefore urge policy-makers to reject these amendments and preserve the original framework and terminology proposed by the European Commission. They warn that reopening this debate at this stage could create unnecessary complexity, delay the programme’s adoption, and ultimately weaken its impact. As a broad coalition representing diverse actors across Europe’s agriculture and bioeconomy sectors, they remain ready to support the legislative process with further technical and policy input.
