From Bluegrass to Bermuda; Deep in the Heart of Texas

The September issue of Seed World U.S. is out! It should be in your mailbox this week!

September always feels like a time of transition. This year, that’s truer than ever — for me and for the seed industry. In May, my family made a big move: after more than 25 years in Kentucky, we packed up and headed back to my home state of Texas. We traded rolling hills and bluegrass for wide skies and scorching heat, and we’re settling into life in the Dallas–Fort Worth area one box and one Whataburger run at a time.

It’s been a season of unpacking — literally and figuratively. In Kentucky, we spent years (and more than a few paychecks) trying to keep bermudagrass out of our yard, favoring cool-season bluegrass and fescue. But here in Texas? We’re buying Bermuda sod by the pallet and cheering every blade that takes root. Life has a funny way of flipping the script and reminding you that where you’re planted matters.

If you’re based in Texas, especially here in DFW, I’d love to connect. Whether you’re growing seed, shaping policy, driving innovation or just passionate about seed, let’s meet up and swap stories. I can always be persuaded to grab a coffee, a glass of sweet tea or even an Old-Fashioned Kentucky bourbon cocktail.

In this issue, we’re diving into what it means to adapt, advocate and collaborate in a changing world. We take you to Capitol Hill, where voices from the seed industry are shaping policy with powerful storytelling and persistence. We revisit the global disruption (COVID-19) that changed seed production forever and examine what lasting progress has come out of that crisis. From new approaches to nitrogen management and weed resistance to cross-border cooperation in trade, this issue is packed with fresh ideas, hard-won insights and the kind of grit that defines our industry.

We’re also tapping into the sector’s collective curiosity by highlighting the most-searched seed topics, thus far, in 2025 — giving you a glimpse into what’s trending and where your peers are focusing their attention right now.

It’s a rich mix of field, lab and leadership and it reflects the momentum we’re seeing across the seed world.

So wherever you’re reading from — cool season, warm season or somewhere in between — I hope you’ll find something is this issue that makes you think, inspires a conversation or just reminds you why this industry is worth growing with and staying with for the long haul.

As always, it’s an honor to partner with you,

Aimee
