Bayer Launches New Monheim LifeHub Facility

Bayer stays true to its continued dedication to create innovative solutions for farmers, consumers and the planet with the launch of new partnership-focused facility LifeHub Monheim. The facility is located in Monheim, Germany on Bayer’s global Crop Science Division headquarters’ campus, according to a release.

The newest addition to the LifeHub network will connect innovators, entrepreneurs and scientists from across Europe to share knowledge and resources that will promote sustainable global food security and contribute to the European Union’s Green Deal objectives. To accomplish these goals, LifeHub Monheim will collaborate with leading innovators from Europe’s open innovation ecosystem, offering partners of all sizes expertise and resources.

“The challenges that agriculture faces in feeding a growing population in spite of accelerating climate change and extreme weather events are bigger than anyone can solve alone,” said Bob Reiter, head of research and development for Bayer’s Crop Science Division. “Making sure that we are a supportive part of the innovation ecosystem is a critical way to ensure that novel solutions for these issues get the support they need. Our global network of LifeHubs is an important way to connect with leading innovators locally and to support where Bayer can help make the most impact.”

The forever home of the new LifeHub will be completed in various phases throughout 2023 and 2024. The hub has already formed relationships in Germany, particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia, by holding collaborative events in its interim facility.

In May 2022, LifeHub invited entrepreneurs, start-ups and Bayer scientists to a start-up pitch day, a joint effort with the European Institute of Innovation, EIT Food. A second pitch day is set for this November with German venture capital investor “High-Tech Gründerfonds.”

To celebrate the launch of the new hub, Bayer held a gene editing symposium at the Monheim campus that brought together leaders from across the globe to discuss trends and discoveries.

“Building a community of innovators starts by bringing people together, and that’s what LifeHub Monheim is all about,” said Axel Trautwein, head of regulatory science for Bayer’s Crop Science Division. “From decision makers and financial resources to scientists, the Bayer LifeHubs around the world make connections and pair resources and expertise with those that need them. We’re excited to be showing so clearly our commitment to the growing innovation ecosystem of Germany and can’t wait to see what we discover together.”
