Can an affordable cereal crop improve animal welfare, reduce CO₂ emissions, and help farmers stay profitable? In Denmark, the answer is yes, with hybrid rye. In November, 154 countries gathered in Lima, Peru to decide the future of how plant genetic resources are shared worldwide. Specifically, their goal was to enhance the functioning of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. The stakes were high: modern breeding, biodiversity, and global food security all hang in the balance. So what actually happened?
