European Coalition Calls for Stronger EU Research Investment

Euroseeds joins 85 other associations in urging EU institutions to make FP10 more ambitious, better funded and more focused on innovation.

A broad coalition of 86 European associations, including Euroseeds, has called on EU institutions to make the next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, FP10, significantly more ambitious and better funded.

For the European seed sector, the declaration is highly relevant because plant breeding, seed innovation, digital tools, climate resilience and sustainable agriculture all depend on long-term research investment and effective public-private collaboration, according to a press release.

The signatories argue that Europe’s competitiveness gap with the United States and China can only be addressed if research, development and innovation are treated as strategic investments rather than discretionary costs. The associations also stress the importance of a strengthened Pillar II, which supports collaborative, sector-driven research and helps move scientific excellence towards practical, market-ready innovation.

For seed companies and plant breeders, a bold FP10 could therefore become an important instrument to accelerate innovation, strengthen Europe’s agricultural resilience and ensure that the green and digital transitions are supported by real technological capacity.
