Bayer Launches ForGround: A Sustainable Agricultural Platform

predictive

Bayer recently announced the launch of ForGround, its farmer-first digital platform created to aid farms of all sizes during their transition to sustainable agricultural practices.

The platform provides growers with tools, resources, discounts and the opportunity to connect with businesses wanting to enhance their sustainability and carbon efforts. ForGround also offers the possibility to gain revenue through the Bayer Carbon Program with the adoption of regenerative practices, according to a release.

ForGround is based on the existing Bayer Carbon Program and will go beyond carbon offsets to investigate additional ways farmers can practice sustainability in their operations, such as collaborating with companies that can help growers meet their sustainability goals.

“As a global leader in agriculture, Bayer is uniquely positioned to help drive lasting change by working directly with farmers and businesses through leveraging our global scale to reduce our impact on the planet and support farms for generations to come,” said Leo Bastos, head of Global Commercial Ecosystems at Bayer CropScience. “We know that better harvests and a better future start with healthy soils and investing in farmers’ success – and believe that the ForGround platform will help them make the transition to more sustainable practices – and ensure agriculture is part of the climate solution.”

With ForGround, Bayer will help enrolled farmers to execute and manage practices that could provide benefits to their land including “improved soil health, increased water availability, fewer inputs, increased weather resiliency and less soil erosion.” The platform will also present the opportunity to create incremental revenue by connecting growers with programs such as Bayer Carbon. The benefits available at launch include:

  • Transition support with “agronomic support, evidence-based field studies and trials, curated content and events, like-minded community and trusted network of leading experts,” according to the release.
  • Connection to possible revenue streams for accepting these new practices.
  • Decreased transition cost barriers with incentives and rewards including a free subscription to Climate FieldView Plus.

“Our difference lies in understanding different needs, realities and adoption rates from farmers and different ways companies can create a positive impact to the environment,” said Bastos. “ForGround is a key commercial piece of how we are working to achieve our goals of reducing our customers’ in-field carbon emissions in major agricultural markets by 30% and becoming carbon neutral in our own operations by 2030. Supporting regenerative agriculture goes beyond our own sustainability commitments and together with farmers and other companies we can transform value for collective impact.”

The ForGround platform is now live and accessible to farmers and companies in the U.S., with global expansion in the near future.
