Private sector professionals working in plant variety protection can now earn internationally recognized credentials through a new certification program from the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV).
Launched in April 2024, the UPOV PVP Certificate provides formal recognition of expertise in the UPOV system. It helps professionals validate their knowledge, stay aligned with international standards and best practices, and strengthen their competitiveness for specialized roles across the seed and plant breeding value chains.
The certification responds to growing demand for a credible benchmark of expertise in international PVP standards. Certificate holders can demonstrate knowledge that supports career advancement, strengthens professional standing, and contributes to greater quality and consistency in plant variety protection worldwide, according to a press release.
“Plant variety protection is only as strong as the people who implement it,” said Yolanda Huerta, UPOV Vice Secretary-General. “The UPOV PVP Certificate sets a new international benchmark for professional expertise in our field, giving plant breeders, lawyers, agents, the recognition they deserve and the tools to remain at the forefront of a rapidly evolving sector.”
The UPOV PVP Certificate is open to private sector professionals across all regions who wish to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in plant variety protection.
