In today’s seed sector, speed is a critical competitive advantage. Chile is increasingly positioning itself as a key facilitator in that race.
At World Seed Congress 2026 in Lisbon, ANPROS Executive Director, Mario Schindler, and Executive Manager, Basilio Rojas, spoke about why international seed companies are continuing to invest in Chile as a strategic hub for counter-season seed production.
“Our country is a paradise for seed today,” Schindler said, pointing to Chile’s strong phytosanitary conditions, reliable irrigation from Andean snowmelt, high-quality soils, and deep technical expertise across the country’s seed industry.
The conversation highlighted how Chile’s role in global seed production extends beyond geography alone. According to Lavin, ANPROS and its members are actively investing in people, technology, and production reliability to meet increasingly strict international standards and rising expectations from global seed companies.
“We are investing in people’s capabilities, improving processes, and bringing in new technologies to improve lead time and quality,” Lavin explained.
The interview also explored Chile’s ongoing progress toward UPOV 91 accession and the country’s close collaboration between industry and phytosanitary authorities through SAG. Both speakers emphasized the importance of trust, transparency, and international alignment as seed movement standards continue evolving worldwide.
Schindler also highlighted Chile’s participation in ISF’s Systems Approach for Seeds initiative, a project many in the industry believe could significantly reshape how seed moves internationally in the years ahead.
For global companies looking to accelerate breeding cycles and secure reliable production environments, Chile is making a strong case for why it remains one of the world’s most strategic seed production destinations.
