Designed To Thrive | Welcome To On The Brink: Season 3

A conversation can map the pressures facing a sector. It cannot decide what the future of Canadian plant breeding will look like. That requires choices about how a system is built, who carries responsibility and what success is meant to produce.

That is the stage Shawn Brook, President of Seed World Group, sets in the Season 3 opener of On The Brink. After months of travelling across Canada listening to voices from across the agriculture value chain, On The Brink is at a tipping point. The next phase of the conversation is no longer to ask what is possible. Instead, it is to ask how the country makes it happen.

Brook is not presenting a finished blueprint. His argument is more demanding than that. Canadian plant breeding has spent time diagnosing what matters, he says. The next phase has to define the conditions of a system that can thrive, rather than merely endure the next few years.

In season 3 of On The Brink, we begin to explore not only what will help Canadian plant breeding survive, but also what moves need to be made for it to thrive.
