Continuous Canadian engagement has led Colombia to ease phytosanitary import requirements for Canadian wheat, effectively putting Canada on a level playing field with other exporting countries in this important export market._x000D_

Canadian wheat producers and exporters can now expand their sales into this market, benefiting Colombian consumers who will have greater access to Canada’s safe, high-quality wheat. The changes will provide enhanced access for western wheat and new access for eastern wheat._x000D_

Colombia is a dynamic emerging market and free trade agreement (FTA) partner for Canada with high economic growth potential. It is one of eight priority markets in Latin America and the Caribbean under the federal government’s Global Markets Action Plan._x000D_

“Colombia is a growing market in a region of growing potential for Canadian wheat, [and] the resolution of concerns with Canadian exports to Colombia is important to increasing exports to the entire region,” Cereals Canada president Cam Dahl said in response to the announcement. “We have resolved this issue because of cooperation between industry and multiple government departments.”
