We all know in our industry, when you’re working with treated seed, there’s a responsibility involved. What’s the responsibility? Making sure that your treated seed ends up in the ground without harming the environment around them. That means growers across the globe need to ensure they’re preventing against seed spills and they’re reading and following treated seed label applications to the T.
Sounds easy, right?
Well, during the frenzy of planting, seed treatment stewardship might not be top-of-mind. It’s the industry’s job to ensure customers understand the importance of seed treatment stewardship. And that job begins with education.
On July 20 at 12:00 CT, Seed Speaks is bringing two panelists to help us learn how to teach our grower customers to be better stewards of the land. Joining us are:
Matt Lewis, the American Seed Trade Association’s (ASTA) chair of the Seed Treatment Committee and U.S. Strategic Accounts lead of UPL. Previously a regional account manager at BASF, Lewis built relationships with seed treatment distributors, developed custom market plans, and helped deliver new products to the market. He also provides leadership in seed treatment enablement and stewardship as chair of the Seed Treatment Committee of ASTA. In 2021, he moved to UPL North America, where he leads a team in growing the seed and soil health business by bringing maximum value to growers who want top performance from the seed they plant.
Justine Taylor, director of stewardship and sustainability for CropLife Canada. In this role Taylor supports both industry stewardship efforts as the executive director of the Agrichemical Warehousing Standards Association and contributes to the larger sustainability efforts of Canada’s plant science sector. She comes to this role after nearly 10 years in the greenhouse sector covering science and government relations issues for the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers. A keen supporter of collaboration, she contributes to several cross-sectoral initiatives and continues to sit on several local volunteer boards in her hometown of Windsor, Ontario. Taylor holds a PhD from the University of Alberta with a focus on analytical chemistry.
