Agri-Food Value Chain Partners Call For Workable Regulatory Framework For Plants Resulting From NGTs

Twenty-seven business associations have signed a letter which highlights the need for a “a differentiated, proportionate and workable regulatory framework for plants resulting from NGTs,” according to the Euroseeds website.

“The signatories consider an undifferentiated mandatory risk assessment step for all plants obtained by targeted mutagenesis, cisgenesis and intragenesis as disproportionate and unworkable, specifically for SMEs and highlight that under such conditions, NGTs will not deliver on the goals of the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity strategies.”

The letter also shares concerns regarding trade-related challenges, specifically when it comes to countries that have a different regulatory approach.
