On behalf of the American Seed Trade Association, Mark Herrmann recognized Joe Funk, editor of Seed Today, for his contributions to the industry at the association’s 134th Annual Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“This is only possible because you have been so generous in opening your offices, your plants, your facilities and allowing us to come in and hear your story,” says Funk, who will begin his encore career in the weeks ahead.

Funk has been faithfully serving agriculture and the seed industry with in-depth reporting on the rapidly changing seed business since 1998. Before that, he wrote for Grain Journal for more than 10 years.

“He’s not satisfied to just research a topic and write about it,” says Herrmann, ASTA chair. “More often than not, you will find Joe making a personal trip to see first-hand the subject of his article.”

Funk’s next adventure takes him far away on a six-week trip to Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso and Ghana as an external ag communications consultant.
