National Garden Bureau (NGB) is pleased to announce the addition of one more category to the popular and inspiring Year of program.

The new category is: Houseplants!

Houseplant sales were booming before the COVID pandemic and they are in even greater demand now. More home offices equals the need for more houseplants! With National Garden Bureau’s expanding member base and more members offering houseplants, it’s natural to add this category to the long-established “Year of” program.

The other five categories are: Bulbs, Annuals, Edibles, Perennials and Flowering Shrubs.

For 2022, the houseplant class will be Peperomia.

In addition, NGB announced the other nominations for the 2022 “Year of” plants to help aid breeders, growers and retailers in their crop planning. The 2022 “Year of” crops are:

  • Annual: Year of the Verbena
  • Bulb: Year of the Gladiolus
  • Edible: Year of the Salad
  • Perennial: Year of the Phlox
  • Flowering Shrub: Year of the Lilac
  • Houseplant: Year of the Peperomia

Consumer publicity for the 2022 “Year of” crops will start in January 2022.
