Breeder Direct Announces Acquisition of Access to FBN’s Germplasm Pool

Breeder Direct has announced that it has acquired access to FBN’s pool of corn germplasm, according to a release. The agreement gives Breeder Direct, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gro Alliance, access to out-license hybrids and create cross-house hybrids with other originators.

The agreement adds depth to Breeder Direct’s corn lineup and creates more genetic choices for seed companies, said Breeder Direct’s director of sales and product development Marc Neuman in the release.

“Gaining the ability to make this large pool of germplasm available to the broader seed industry is a major win for Breeder Direct, seed companies and farmers,” he added.

FBN acquired its corn germplasm pool, originally developed by Pegasus Genetics, in 2019. Subsequently, FBN more than doubled the scope of that breeding program, identifying unique genetic combinations and excellent genetic rate of gain.

“The germplasm pool is novel, diverse and delivers elite hybrid performance with improved adaptation and agronomics,” said Dan Dyer, head of research and development at FBN. “Breeder Direct’s strong network of seed company relationships puts them in a great position to take the next step with these products.”
