Mycogen’s Indiana Research Station Celebrates 30 Years

The Mycogen Seeds research station in Mount Vernon, Indiana, celebrates 30 years of corn hybrid innovation, and to mark the anniversary, the Mount Vernon research team will host a field day Aug. 18.
Since 1986, the research station has facilitated significant corn hybrid advancements for Mycogen Seeds, including corn breeding and germplasm enhancement programs, and has worked on its unique silage corn breeding program. According to the company, Mycogen is the only seed company with a separate silage corn breeding program focused on developing silage-specific corn hybrids that perform in the field and the feed bunk.
“Our team is proud of the impact we’ve made throughout the last 30 years,” says David Uhr, lead researcher at the Mount Vernon research station. “Not only have we improved Mycogen Seeds hybrid performance through breeding innovation, we also have supported the local community.
“We’ve hired more than a thousand local residents over the past three decades, and we’re excited to celebrate with the farming community and our valued customers.”
The Mount Vernon field day will include field tours and lunch with the opportunity to visit with and learn from the local Mycogen Seeds team, including the research team, sales representatives, commercial agronomists and dealers.
Lunch will feature a short presentation and question-and-answer session with Wayne Hart, chief meteorologist from WEHT/WTVW.
“Weather patterns continue to change, and Wayne Hart will provide some insight into what growers can continue to expect from Mother Nature,” says Andrew Ferrel, Mycogen Seeds commercial agronomist. “Attendees also can tour our plots and learn more about our hybrid testing and population trials.
“This local plot data helps us gain further information into how to choose the right hybrids and build planting plans for our customers.”
The field day will begin at 9 a.m. CDT with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. The Mount Vernon research station is at 3930 Lower Mount Vernon Road, Mount Vernon, IN 47620. For more information, call Ellen Adler at 812-453-9796.
