The Mexican Association of Seed Producers (AMSAC), which represents the majority of the country’s seed companies, has warmly welcomed the federal government’s announcement aimed at increasing the production of corn, rice, and beans.

The Mexico Plan, presented on April 3 by the Executive, outlines significant food sovereignty goals, including raising the production of white corn from 21.3 million tons to 25 million, beans from 730,000 tons to 1.2 million, and rice from 221,500 tons to 450,000. AMSAC views this initiative as a positive step toward achieving greater food self-sufficiency.

“A goal that we seed companies pursue daily is to increase the productivity of the Mexican countryside, so the announcement made by President Claudia Sheinbaum resonates positively within our industry, as it means that we share the aspiration to produce more and better food for the entire population,” said Mario Puente Raya, executive director of AMSAC in a statement addressed to the members of this organization.

The manager added that seed companies will be attentive to the government’s requirements to achieve these objectives so that they can support them with the resources and knowledge available within the union.

“We are in the best disposition to collaborate to achieve the objectives set within the Mexico Plan, either through technical support to the government bodies that are dedicated to the investigation, and we send the Presidency a congratulation for placing the field as a key piece of Mexico’s social and economic growth,” said Puente Raya.
