ADAMA Ltd. announced that Steve Hawkins has been appointed president and CEO by their board of directors starting May 1, 2023 according to a release. Hawkins was serving as ADAMA’s senior vice president and is succeeding Ignacio Dominguez, who served in upper management roles with ADAMA for over a decade.
“Steve brings extensive international leadership experience to his new role, having worked across many markets and businesses in a broad range of leadership positions,” said Erik Fyrwald, chairman of the ADAMA board and president and CEO of Syngenta Group. “He will report to me as a member of the Group Leadership Team as we work together to maintain the momentum of our strategy and accelerate ADAMA’s transformation to an even more prosperous future.”
Hawkins entire career has been in the agriculture sector, starting with GROWMARK in sales. Since then, Hawkins has spent time in multiple senior roles with ICI Canada, NA Corn & Soya Seeds, among others.
He has been the senior vice president for the Americas since 2021, overseeing North and Latin American businesses. Hawkins and his team were pivotal in ADAMA’s business development and strategies.
Hawkins has a degree and Executive MBA in Food and Agribusiness from Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph. He also holds a bachelor’s in administrative studies from Toronto’s York University.
“As a key member of ADAMA’s Management and Executive Committee for more than a decade, Ignacio has been instrumental in crafting and implementing its global strategy,” added Frywald. “As its CEO since 2020, he guided the organization through many changes, including through it becoming a distinctive member of Syngenta Group while enhancing/ strengthening the collaboration with the different Syngenta Group Business units, as well as some important leadership changes. He did this while combining the courage to drive change, a sharp focus on delivering results, and attention and care for our people and culture.”
