The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations deemed 2015 as the International Year of Soils, and the U.S. seed industry and commodity groups are investing a great deal of resources into the science behind soil health. According to the FAO, soils are at risk from erosion and helping farmers prevent erosion is a priority in meeting the end goal of feeding the estimated 9 billion people expected to inhabit earth by 2050.
