Canada’s seed sector is navigating a period of significant change — and Shannon Bieman sees that as an opportunity.

The new president of the Canadian Seed Growers’ Association says digitization, seed regulatory modernization and evolving plant breeding techniques are reshaping the industry. For Bieman, the question isn’t whether change is coming, but how the sector responds to it.

Her answer: together.

That means changing how organizations communicate and making sure groups like CSGA, Seeds Canada, CFIA and other stakeholders are at the table early — helping shape conversations rather than being brought in after decisions have already begun to take form.

The goal, Bieman says, is a seed sector that is more connected, collaborative and willing to build stronger partnerships.
