CSGA Announces its New Executive Director, and it’s Not Someone From the Seed Sector

C.J. Noble is the new executive director of the Canadian Seed Growers' Association.

Former cattle industry government relations leader Cathy-Jo Noble will join the Canadian Seed Growers’ Association in mid-August, bringing more than 30 years of experience in agricultural policy, advocacy and leadership.

The Canadian Seed Growers’ Association (CSGA) has named Cathy-Jo (C.J.) Noble as its next executive director, with Noble set to assume the role in mid-August.

Announced by CSGA President Shannon Bieman in a statement, the appointment marks a new leadership chapter for the organization following the stepping down of former executive director Doug Miller earlier this year.

Noble brings more than 30 years of experience in public affairs, government relations and agricultural leadership. Most recently, she led policy and government relations for both the National Cattle Feeders’ Association and the Alberta Cattle Feeders’ Association. Prior to that, she served for more than a decade as CEO of the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association.

Her background also includes work in federal government as chief of staff to the Secretary of State for Rural Development and as a political aide on agriculture and food inspection files. Noble is a graduate of the Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program and currently serves on the executive board of the Rural Ontario Institute.

In announcing the appointment, Bieman said Noble shares CSGA’s commitment to “deliver an inclusive and transparent national seed crop certification and standards-setting system that fosters innovation, empowers farmers, and strengthens collaboration across the value chain.”

Bieman also thanked Caroline Lafontaine, who has served as interim executive director during the leadership transition and will continue as CSGA’s chief operating officer.

“As I said at the AGM, agriculture is a team sport, and we’re glad to have C.J. join ours,” Bieman said.
