New Plant-Based Products Hitting U.S. Shelves

Two new product announcements this week are hoping to make waves in the plant-based food market, offering more choices for consumers and widening the field in the plant-based foods aisle.

Mayo that is…NotMayo

Kraft Heinz and NotCo announced a plant-based mayonnaise, “NotMayo”, made from chickpeas according to a release.

Kraft Heinz has launched several other plant-based foods in the past six months like NotCheese and Philadelphia Plant-based spread, vegan alternatives for cream cheese.

According to the release, the consistency of NotMayo is smooth and creamy, similar to egg-based mayonnaise. NotCo Chile shared producing NotMayo uses 32.5% less energy, 83% less water, and generates 37% less carbon dioxide compared to producing regular mayonnaise.

NotCheese, before NotMayo, was released in October 2022 in the flavors of American cheddar and provolone.

Someone Say Chocolate?

Hershey Company has announced the will be releasing a vegan chocolate bar Hershey’s Plant Based Extra Creamy with Almonds and Sea Salt and Reese’s Plant Based Peanut Butter Cups according to a release.

Hershey’s Plant Based Extra Creamy with Almonds and Sea Salt and Reese’s Plant Based Peanut Butter Cups will be made with dairy alternatives.

The chocolate can be expected to remain the same, less milk. The products will be vegan and oat milk is replacing the dairy milk in the chocolate products. They started releasing products in 2021 to cater to consumer preferences. The line also features portion-controlled treats, zero sugar, no sugar added, and high protein products to offer a variety of choices.

The plant-based peanut butter cups are expected to be available March 2023. The plant-based salted chocolate bar with almonds can be expected April 2023.
