Shining a spotlight on Pure Seed’s Crystal Rose-Fricker.
Crystal Rose-Fricker, president of Pure Seed and Pure-Seed Testing, is gracious, quiet and measured. In the world of turf and forage seed, however, she’s a powerhouse. Her creativity, commitment, and passion for turfgrass breeding have reshaped the industry. This year, her influence is being recognized at the very highest levels.
Rose-Fricker will this year earn not one but two of turfgrass science’s most prestigious honors, a rare double that underscores both her individual efforts and the impact of the companies she leads.
In July, the Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) announced her as the recipient of the Fred V. Grau turfgrass science award . This national award recognizes individuals whose career contributions have transformed turfgrass science through groundbreaking research, visionary leadership, and dedication to advancing the industry. Named for Fred V. Grau, a pioneer in turfgrass science, the award is one of the highest marks of distinction in the field.
“Crystal’s selection is a powerful acknowledgment of her lifelong work to elevate the turfgrass seed industry through cutting-edge genetics, seed technology, and global leadership,” says Melodee Fraser, Pure-Seed Testing director of research. The official award ceremony will take place at the 2025 CSSA Annual Meeting in November.
Also in November, Rose-Fricker will reeive the Breeders Cup Award from the Turfgrass Breeders Association for the seeded seashore paspalum cultivars that make up Pure Dynasty. She not only developed this elite product but also pioneered the methods to successfully produce paspalum seed. This award honors both the breeder and the cultivar, celebrating originality and excellence in turfgrass innovation.
To date, only 13 breeders have received this distinction, placing Rose-Fricker among an elite circle of scientists whose work has changed the face of turfgrass worldwide.
