Seed Association of the Americas (SAA) announces the appointment of two important professionals joining the organization. Both are senior in their careers with proven experience and knowledge in their areas of study, says SAA secretary general Diego Risso.
Juan Kiekebusch will work with the biotechnology working group. He is an Argentinean agricultural engineer from the University of Buenos Aires with postgraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin in plant breeding. Kiekebusch has participated actively in the development of the Argentine biotech regulatory framework. He coordinated the SAA biotech working group during 2013 and 2014. He was responsible for planting the first-ever transgenic corn research trial and obtained the first commercial corn event approval in Latin America. Kiekebusch was a member of the board of directors at Syngenta Argentina, as well as for Latin America, and also a member of the Global Regulatory Management Team.
Inés Ares will work with the SAA phytosanitary working group. Ares is a Uruguayan agronomist and a phytosanitary expert (with emphasis on pest management) with extensive experience in different areas of plant health. She has proven abilities in planning, organizing and supervising phytosanitary surveillance programs, plant quarantine, phytosanitary campaigns and biological control programs. Planning, organization and supervision of phytosanitary certification systems for the export of plant products is also part of her background. For the past 15 years she had participated on phytosanitary negotiations at a bilateral level on agricultural import and export products.
